Dutchoiserie
2026
Reimagining Dutch–Chinese cultural exchange through productive misunderstanding.

DUTCHOISERIE explores the cultural exchange between China and the Netherlands through acts of translation, misreading, and reinterpretation. Drawing from Dutch tiles, Chinese landscape imagery, ceramics, glass, and embroidery, the project revisits historical encounters between the two cultures and the hybrid visual languages they produced.
Rather than seeking an authentic or fixed representation of either culture, the project treats misunderstanding as a productive space for making. Familiar images are displaced, fragmented, and reconstructed, creating objects and scenes that appear simultaneously recognizable and foreign.
